Words do special jobs in sentences.
They can be:
- doing words
- describing words
- joining words
Look at this sentence:
- The cat sat on the computer.
Which is the doing word? It’s sat.
That’s what the cat did. It sat on the computer.
What is the doing word in this sentence?

The dog ran into the classroom.
Ran is the doing word. That’s what the dog did. It ran into the classroom.
Doing words are called VERBS.
