Teacher's Brief
On our poetry page we invite language learners to submit their work.
We also invite teachers to send their students' contributions.
The page is for everyone. It will show masterpieces, but it will also show the first effort of a beginner with learning difficulties.
We hope that the opportunity to display work to the world will motivate learners and teachers alike.
We also hope that the poems will provide a stimulus for further work in all schools belonging to the RM Internet for Learning.
If teachers submit their students' work, would they please accompany it with some information about the school, the students and the task. This could take the form of responses to the following headings:
- Name of school
- Type of school
(e.g. mixed comprehensive)
- Age of writers
- Experience of language
(e.g. 2 years)
- Grouping
(e.g. mixed ability)
- Name of teacher
- Background to task
(e.g. the theme, the stimulus, teaching aids)
- How we did it
(this might include specific information on how the task was carried out in the classroom or how the work was presented)
Please send your work to us in one of the following ways:
- Hand written on paper
- As an ASCII text file
etc
Tips for teachers
- Let them go!
- Let them share ideas with each other.
- If they have been using target language intensively in class you will be amazed at what comes out in the poems! Target language and confidence are the keys!
- If you want a "tidied-up" version (e.g. for the Internet), make sure they can keep their original - warts and all.
- Let them illustrate and display their work.
- Let them word process their work if the opportunity is there.
- It's fun!
